Assessment & Intervention for Developmental Difficulties in Children in Peristeri

Increasingly in recent years, parents have become much more knowledgeable about the developmental stages of children. Whether from pediatricians, kindergarten teachers/educators or from their own personal search, the first concerns come in relation to the developmental deficits they identify in their children. Thus the requests come to us from the beginning with very good and specific information.

Our centre has been located in Peristeri since 1992 and is by definition an evaluation and intervention centre from the beginning of its operation as it collaborates with all specialties of therapists and occasionally with all medical specialties related to special education. Early diagnosis and early intervention are key elements of our philosophy and determine the effectiveness of our treatment programmes, particularly in areas such as speech therapy or the occupational therapy.

We have been assessing and intervening with children of all ages for many, many years with the same sense of responsibility and respect.

Η Evaluation is of paramount importance because it is our first contact with the child and his/her family, during which all the time needed to help parents understand what is at stake at any given time. From taking a detailed history, recording the request, observing the child's clinical picture to administering the evaluative tests and tools, this meeting determines the whole essence and the question of a parent, which is none other than whether the difficulty he sees in the child is valid and what he needs to improve it.

So along the way very often (if not always) comes the Intervention. It requires just as much attention, interest and therapeutic competence from the people involved with the child. Developmental difficulties occur in a variety of ways in children very different from one another, and in many cases the Sensory Integration (SI) is a key part of the therapeutic approach.

So the most important thing for the right intervention is first to get the right diagnosis. This is given by the Child psychiatrist us in a Examination which is implemented within our Centre by appointment. In this way, our multidisciplinary team meets on the same day and sets up a therapeutic valid protocol in which very often the parent is involved as a “co-therapist” and the child is helped better and faster.

Finally, at the end of the period set by the doctor for each intervention, the parents, therapists, doctors and/or teachers of the child follow up and decide whether to stop or continue the intervention based on the verification of the achievement of the objectives.

Our Healers

All of our 13 therapists have all the formal qualifications (degrees, licenses, diplomas) and some of them have postgraduate degrees in order to comply with all the legal procedures and the cognitive competence for this sensitive work with children.

They are regularly trained through seminars and conferences of international importance. They act with ethics and respect for the child and his/her family, and in many therapeutic protocols they also work closely with the physiotherapy, so that there is a comprehensive and global support.

They inform parents in detail at each conference about how they worked with the child and why. They are organized, focused and highly committed to their science. The atmosphere is welcoming, cheerful and highly scientific.

We know how to work with each child and above all we never rest on our acquired knowledge but we constantly make sure to update it. Our aim is first and foremost to support and comfort the parent.

Our Space in Peristeri

It has been operating since 1992 and meets all the necessary requirements of a modern, multi-purpose and multidisciplinary Evaluation centre and intervention for developmental difficulties in children.

Its size (460sqm), its volume (3 floors), its design (10 therapeutic rooms) rank it among the most advanced and at the same time the most thoroughly organized centers for special therapies in the Attica basin. While located in the dovecote, it can welcome children from many areas of western Athens and the province when they come to the capital for a short period of time.

Our space is fully renovated and has all the modern and scientific logistical equipment and an excellent human resource that undertakes the important work of special education.
