Over the years, more and more parents have become interested in special education in relation to their children's developmental deficits and how to address them. Speech therapy as the most widespread special therapy in our field has managed to develop throughout Greece and more specifically has penetrated outside of special education centers and in school settings or hospitals in the country. In Peristeri it has flourished for many years and is still number 1 in demand by most parents. However, it works much more effectively when it is carried out in multidisciplinary centres where all specialties are involved so that the therapeutic goals are covered comprehensively. This is why our centre has ensured all the years, since its inception, that it has been working with all the specialties in the field.
Our speech therapists
The Speech and Language Therapy Department of our Centre is staffed by colleagues with experience and awareness of children with difficulties. All of them are graduates of higher technological institutions in Greece and abroad, with a professional license. Their educational training, continuous training and unabated zeal for children and their difficulties make the level of our service high. Working with parents is an integral part of the treatment at our centre. All our speech and language therapists provide detailed training for parents and often encourage them to participate within the session with their child following observation and instruction.
Our space in Peristeri
The speech and language therapy department consists of 3 smaller rooms, which are adjacent to each other for the purpose of socializing the children where necessary. All rooms are equipped with the necessary logistical equipment required for modern intervention and therapy. This equipment is located on high shelves to enhance communication between children by asking either extra-verbally (with the index finger) or verbally what they want and at the same time reduce distraction from external stimuli. At the same time, in order to achieve the reduction of the level of stimulation in all rooms there are cushions, floor puzzles, mattresses and poufs in order to get the appropriate sensory stimuli. An integral part of our room equipment are the mirrors which are made of unbreakable material and small in volume for the greater safety of the children.
