Assessment & Diagnostic Centre for Children in Peristeri

Our centre in Peristeri has been active in the field of special education since 1992, while its start dates back to 1974 in the centre of Athens. Therefore, one understands very soon when coming to our centre that one is in an environment with a long history and experience. The evaluation process itself is a crucial moment in our contact with parents and their child. It is an important meeting that requires seriousness, due attention and corresponding humility, because we owe respect and honesty to every parent who crosses our threshold to get an opinion about their most precious asset, their child.

Thus, with the necessary benevolent neutrality and objectivity that we possess, we proceed to the EVALUATION of the child and explain in detail at the same time to the parent what exactly we are examining, how and why. The parent is able to raise their questions, concerns or even objections. The information he or she gives us complements the clinical picture we are ascertaining and is absolutely essential for us to proceed.

The assessment experts, a psychologist and a speech and language therapist

The involvement of the two specific specialties is the most important factor of our success in a first meeting, as the child's assessment is covered comprehensively by combined knowledge. On the one hand, all developmental domains are examined and on the other hand, we emphasize the structure and function of the family.

After all these years, the thousands of parents we have met or worked with, as an interdisciplinary team, we have come to the conclusion that when in the EVALUATION, that is, in the first meeting, we take all the time that each child, or each mother or father needs to exchange what we see and what they perceive, then a relationship of trust between them and us is built faster. Children thus function much more effectively in the therapeutic process.

In fact, the child himself is fortified on both sides essentially and for his own good “feeling pleasure, love and protection” (Nicolas, 9 years old, 16/11/23).

Our goal is for all children to receive the necessary medical and therapeutic care they deserve with seriousness, responsibility, ethics and optimism.

Our Space in Peristeri

The place of this examination must be warm, functional and spacious to accommodate all members of a family. Thus, ours serves all the above since it has the appropriate size, equipment and assessment tools needed for the child psychiatric examination, as well as several tempting toys placed in a well thought-out way to achieve immediate communication with the child and thus complete the examination more correctly.
