The Special Children's Centre was founded in 1992 by the paediatric physiotherapist Mrs Ruli Granitsiotou-Tsilividou and is a continuation of the Children's Physiotherapy Centre of Athens, which was founded in 1974.
In 1974, on her own initiative, Roulis Granitsiotou-Tsilividou completed her specialization in pediatric physiotherapy in Switzerland and realized her vision by creating a modern and independent unit for children with disabilities in the center of Athens, which operated for 30 consecutive years (until 2004), as a pioneer in the private sector, since there was no other rehabilitation centre in our country until then, apart from two institutions, ELEPAP (Greek Society for the Protection and Rehabilitation of Disabled Children) and the Society for the Protection of Spastic Children. The initial core, the physiotherapy department, was supported by worthy collaborators of other specialties, such as occupational therapists, speech therapists, special pedagogues, psychologists and social workers.
With the help of specialised doctors (paediatricians, neurologists, orthopaedic surgeons and others), independent therapeutic departments were created which operated with a constant and lasting dedication to the child and his/her family.
After many years of experience in the field of children's rehabilitation, the encouragement of the medical sector and the local government, listening to the needs in the field of childhood disability in Attica, she decided to create a modern multidisciplinary center of special education staffed by all specialties in the western sector and specifically in Peristeri, which is one of the largest municipalities in the country. From 2010 until today, this project is continued by her daughter, Maria-Io Tsilividou, a psychologist specialising in clinical psychology and psychopathology of children/adolescents and adults. The continuous staffing of competent therapists, such as Irene Scrapa,The continuous updating of the new methods of intervention, the modernization of equipment, facilities and infrastructure have established the SPECIAL CHILD CENTER as the oldest but at the same time the most modern center for special therapies in our country.

Given the last 10 years in which most parents seem to be much more informed and aware of their children's developmental needs and consequently their children's difficulties, our aim is to participate in explaining their concerns and then we have to answer any kind of question that arises from them. It is necessary, especially during the first meeting, to exhaust all the possible causes that very often concern the parents, to observe details in the child's clinical picture that they may have missed, to analyse with them the family history, to obtain the necessary information and to provoke an in-depth exchange.
Finally, in this way we aim to jointly remedy the child's deficits with a more complete and accurate education of the parents themselves.
All this incomparably large and long-standing experience in the field of special education, the staffing of stable and specialized associates, the continuous training and supervision, the interest in the child and his/her family are the main reasons why you should choose our Center.
At the same time, the monitoring of cases under the supervision of our child psychiatrist makes our level of service high. All our therapists have a wonderful sense of responsibility and respect for the serious work they have to do, which is primarily based on listening to, acknowledging and supporting families. We operate as a body that deals with and intervenes in all our cases in that the exchange and coexistence of the members of our therapeutic team is always alert and close to all our children.
We consider the positive energy and the good atmosphere to be one of our greatest successes within the Centre, as there is always a benevolent attitude towards anyone who needs us. It is very important that we listen to the particularities and difficulties and that we always maintain a pleasant atmosphere, both compassionate and cheerful, as many of the families attend our Centre two or even three times a week. For more information about our philosophy and frequently asked questions from parents, please visit Frequently asked questions.
All this daily life has created a feeling of trust and security for both sides. Equally important is the fact that we do not rest on our acquired knowledge but we constantly make sure to keep ourselves informed about new methods and ways of intervention and we occasionally participate in specialized seminars that keep our concerns and specific treatments at an even more precise level. All our partners also have a wealth of equipment and treatment material at their fingertips at all times.
We also assure parents, at each first visit, that if a child does not need intervention, he or she is not included in our center's program or we ask to re-evaluate the child at a time we determine based on our experience. For any questions or to make an appointment, please visit. Contact page.
Finally, the dedication and accurate information to parents about their most precious asset, their own child, is perhaps the greatest proof of trust for which we feel grateful over the last 50 years....
