Adapting a therapeutic protocol that suits the level, age and potential of each child, the specialized teacher of our Center in Peristeri (special educator) and not a teacher, uses his knowledge so that each child can assimilate all these concepts that he cannot spontaneously master at school, in his daily reading at home or from his parents.
Based on the studies of Suzana Panteliadou, the pictorial method of Dora Mavrommatis and her rehabilitation program for dyslexia, the intervention program of Maria-Martha Floratos and many others, we use alternative teaching methods and material adapted to the needs of each student. We emphasize learning strategies for organization, study, memorization and metacognitive skills and make the most of each child's strengths and talents.
All these techniques offer a quick relief to the child as they are based on the child's difficulties so that with the passage of the special education sessions the initial deficits identified are increasingly improved. In addition, it is generally acknowledged that the children's self-confidence and feelings in the classroom and in relation to their peers are boosted.
Our Special Educators
At our Center in Peristeri, the Special Educator is a graduate of the Department of Philosophy - Pedagogy - Psychology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a Master's degree in Special Education from the Department of Early Childhood Education of the same University. With her many years of experience, she assesses the needs of the children and in collaboration with the other specialties of the Center, sets up a unique learning protocol, personalized and adapted to each child individually. The exercises given for homework as well as the whole program does not usually keep up with the school curriculum but aims to improve the personal learning difficulties of each child.
Our Space in Peristeri
Special education is carried out in a small and bright room on our floor, in which there are all the therapeutic materials, specialised books, board and games. The room of this particular pedagogical program is set up so that the children have the simulation of a classroom, but with less stimuli for better organization and concentration.
