Our Center, as a multi-purpose rehabilitation center, stands out by the fact that it is one of the few that have a physiotherapy department not only in Peristeri but in all of Greece.
It is clearly addressed primarily to children of the municipality of Peristeri, but due to the great experience and the difficulty of finding a physiotherapy centre in all municipalities of the country, it is addressed not only to neighbouring municipalities but also to the whole of Attica.
Of course, there are also cases where they come from the province and are able to attend a concentrated treatment programme with the guidance and instructions given by the therapists to the parents of the children for their return.
A few words about children's physiotherapy
Physiotherapy for children is the specialized physiotherapy intervention applied to infants and children in order to improve their motor patterns, prevent any complications and achieve functional independence. The intervention concerns children with neuromuscular or neurodevelopmental disorders such as cerebral palsy, myopathies, syndromes, as well as conditions with respiratory problems, arthritis, craniocerebral injuries, scoliosis and diseases of the peripheral nervous system.
Each child is treated individually, understanding their problems and developing a tailored program based on their needs and goals. This is achieved through regular assessment and careful monitoring of the progression of the child's clinical picture.
More and more methods of intervention are being developed, but in recent years, it is believed that a holistic approach is more helpful, in which different therapeutic techniques are used based on what suits each child best.
Our Physiotherapists
The physiotherapy department is staffed by physiotherapists specialised in paediatric rehabilitation of neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and developmental disorders.
Our physiotherapists are graduates of the University of West Attica with postgraduate education and many years of experience in the management of motor deficits, deformities and functional difficulties faced by children.
Their continuous training makes the potential of the department very high. Seminars that they have attended, such as the specializations in Bobath-NDT methods, Sensory Integration, the use of Kinesiotape, the Method for the treatment of scoliosis-Schroth, the Functional Evaluation of the lower limbs with the construction of customized orthotic soles and Gait Analysis, certify the prestige of the services that our physiotherapists can offer.
At the same time, they actively participate in numerous domestic and international conferences with their own presentations and papers, constantly learning about developments and new methods in the field of pediatric physiotherapy.
Our space in Peristeri
The physiotherapy department consists of a large single room with a total area of 90sqm. Covered with carpet and special therapeutic mattresses, it is divided into three sections. The central and larger space is equipped with rollers, balls, wedges, triangular mattresses, single and multi-pedal mattresses, special gait training equipment, planks, uprights, balance beams, sensory toys, recliners, etc.
Mirrors have also been placed along the length of the large room in order to achieve better visibility of the exercises. There is a walking treadmill and suspended equipment of hammocks and balls for balance and visuomotor coordination exercises.
In one smaller department an occupational therapist can be active in parallel for co-therapy and the second one can be used for early intervention of high-risk infants.
All the necessary conditions exist for conducting a wide range of exercises to train children in motor activities.
