A modern centre for special therapies such as ours should have a sensory integration room, as this method is now applied to many children with good results.
In addition to the adapted equipment we use all the necessary therapeutic sensory materials to reinforce skills that some children may be lacking in, for example in feeding, self-care, writing or concentration. For example, to get a child to accept more food due to selectivity, we use strong flavours and temperatures such as honey, lemon or ice to better regulate the dysregulation in sensory peri-oral sensation.
For writing, before we move on to using a pencil, we reinforce the use of finger paints, for concentration and reducing mobility in the chair we use special cushions placed on the back or seat for tactile reinforcement.
For the intense search in the body we facilitate with massage and therapeutic massage techniques. Of course it is impossible to list all types of interventions through sensory integration, but the goal is always the same: to interpret the environment, ourselves, to react appropriately to the challenges of the environment, to learn and evolve.
Our Occupational Therapists
Our occupational therapists are certified in the sensory integration seminar under the training of Dimitris Mylonadis (02/22- 10/23, in the EPIMORFOSIS seminar room, Lifelong Learning Center). They train all our parents individually to continue the therapeutic process at home with instructions as to the method. We consider the family's contribution to the method a very important factor as it concerns all the routines of a child's daily life.
Our Space in Peristeri
In our premises, in Peristeri, there is an appropriate sensory integration room with dimensions according to the needs of the method and it has all the appropriate equipment (swinging equipment such as swings, hammocks, therapeutic tears, but also trampoline, climbing construction and ball pool), so that Ayres' methods can be applied in combination with other methods, to create the appropriate therapeutic program for each child and to achieve the best result.
