The Child Psychiatric Diagnosis, following the Child Psychiatric Examination, is the communication by the Child Psychiatrist to the parents of what the child has, what it is called and how it is recorded internationally based on the global nosography. For example when a 3 year old child is not talking it may be due to different diagnoses such as autism, specific language disorder or deafness. We therefore understand that child psychiatric diagnosis is extremely important in that it explains and determines the correct treatment and, in part, the prognosis of a disorder, as in all areas of health.
The child psychiatrist examines the child and his/her family in one or more sessions to be able to determine the disorders or difficulties that are present.
At the same time it guides, advises and explain the necessity or otherwise of starting a treatment programme, request additional tests if necessary, or administer the appropriate assessment tests where necessary, give opinions and prescribe treatments where appropriate. He/she then supervises and exchanges with the child's therapists, the targeting and intervention to be followed.
In the process, the child and the family are reviewed at regular intervals in order to monitor the child's therapeutic progress.
He is the most competent medical specialist who can contribute to the supervision of the entire multidisciplinary team, as long as his knowledge and medical competence are fully in line with all issues related to special education. With his guidance and the precision of his knowledge in the field of children's mental health, he guarantees the comprehensive coverage needed for each individual intervention.
A number of disorders can be treated with child psychiatric examination, however the most common in the paediatric population are:
The child psychiatric examination is the cornerstone for the beginning of a special education treatment programme for children. This is because, above all, it is carried out by a specialised doctor-child psychiatrist and offers the important possibility of a child psychiatric DIAGNOSIS, which in turn will determine, on the one hand, the appropriate information of the child's condition to his/her parents and, on the other hand, will indicate the therapeutic protocol that will be needed, giving at the same time indications for the child's prognosis.
Unfortunately, children who do not visit a child psychiatrist often go undiagnosed during their fragile preschool (or even school) years, so many parents cannot explain the difficulties they see and at the same time their children do not receive the appropriate treatment they need.
2 times a month, parents have the possibility to make an appointment with our Child Psychiatrist in our Centre by arrangement with the management.
The procedure takes from 45 minutes to 1 hour. After the child has been evaluated primarily in our office, a written report is given to the doctor with all the necessary data and the difficulties we have identified and he in turn conducts the medical examination in the presence of the whole family. He asks questions, discusses the request with the parents, records the information needed and in a second time examines the child.
This is done through a dialogue but also through games, drawings, therapeutic material, aesthetic-motor or writing material. At the end it answers questions, gives parents a diagnosis and explains how the multidisciplinary team will need to intervene in a possible therapeutic programme. For those who wish, she prescribes treatments through the EOPYY agency.
Finally, it tells parents how long before it wants to review their child to check on his or her progress.
The cost of the child psychiatric examination is €80 for the first examination and €60 for the re-examination.
In Peristeri, the Child Psychiatric Diagnostic Center, which belongs to the Special Children's Center of West, serves an important purpose: the provision of accurate and thorough diagnosis for children with possible child psychiatric problematic conditions.
The centre's team of child psychiatrists, with the support of multidisciplinary collaborators, offers full evaluation and diagnostic services, tailored to the needs of each child. Through the use of advanced methods and techniques, we aim to provide an accurate framework for understanding and intervening in potential child psychiatric difficulties, empowering children and their families with knowledge and support.
